The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery organized a CDE Program on ‘Transalveolar Extraction & Minor Oral Surgery’ from October 4th to October 6th 2018.

The Inauguration ceremony was held on October 4th2018 in the presence of our invited guest speaker, Dr. Rajesh Kshirsagar, Dean of Dental Faculty (Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune)

Dr. Rajesh Kshirsagar enlightened the participant with his presentation on the topic of ‘Transalveolar Extraction & Minor Oral Surgery’. Hands-on on Transalveolar Extraction and Suturing technique was conducted on goat jaw. The necessary armamentarium for the CDE was provided by the Department of Oral Surgery.

CDE was conducted under the guidance of Dr.V.Sreenivasan ,Principal and Dr.Vipin Thakkar (HOD). The Oral Surgery Course conducting team comprised of Dr.Harjeet Kalsi,Dr.Viraj Kharkar,Dr.Deepak Kolte, Dr.Abhinav Hire and Dr.Yash Mehta.


Hands-on on Transalveolar Extraction and Suturing technique was conducted on goat jaw.

The Department of Prosthodontics organized a CDE Programme on “Basic Implantology”, which includes Lecture and hand-on, on 30/11/2018. The details of the programme are as follows:

Introduction

Easier eating. Sliding dentures can make chewing difficult. Dental implants function like your own teeth, allowing you to eat your favorite foods with confidence and without pain. Improved self-esteem.

Inhalation sedation in Dentistry : 4th January 2019

Introduction - Inhalation sedation is a light form of sedation. It is a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen breathed through a nosepiece. This helps the child to feel relaxed and accept treatment.

Inhalation sedation is also known as ‘happy air’. Inhalation sedation is NOT general anaesthesia.

The following are possible uses for conscious sedation "dental anxiety and phobia, a need for prolonged or traumatic dental procedures, medical conditions potentially aggravated by stress (such as ischaemic heard disease, hypertension, asthma and epilepsy), medical or behavioural conditions affecting a patient's ability to cooperate, special care requirements".

Dental lasers are currently causing revolution in the field of dentistry. It is important to keep yourself upgraded with the various new treatment techniques which help in dealing with patients stress and fear of pain in dental treatments.Laser dentistry is a minimally invasive option when you’re facing gum surgery, cavity treatment, or other oral issues.

Dentists choose laser dentistry because of distinct benefits that make the procedures go more smoothly, and also reduce discomfort and healing time for patients.

  • Patients are less likely to require sutures
  • Anesthesia may not be necessary
  • The laser will sterilize the gums, making infection less likely
  • Less damage to gums shortens the healing time
  • Patients lose less blood than traditional surgery

One such CDE was organised by the Department of Periodontology on Dental Lasers.
