International Yoga Day Celebrations

Yoga is an ancient art which was originated in India around six thousand years ago. It embodies unity of mind, body and spirit and is itself a way of life. Within each Individual lies vast untapped possibilities waiting to be discovered yoga is the blossoming of these possibilities. In order to make people aware of the yoga and its benefits worldwide, 21st June has be declared as International Day of Yoga (IDY) or World Yoga Day.

Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be) University Dental College &Hospital, Navi Mumbai and Bharati Vidyapeeth college of Architecture together celebrated the “World Yoga Day” on 21/6/2018 with great enthusiasm.. The entire Programme was outlined by Dr. Meenakshi Verma and a college committee, N.S.S unit along with Architecture college teachers under the guidance of Hon. Principal Dr. V. Sreenivasan and Mrs. Ritu Deshmukh Hon. Principal B.V.College of Architecture. Two yoga sessions were conducted on 20/6/2018 between 8:30 am to 9:30 am for students of both colleges, and on 21/6/2018 from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm for teaching staff respectively.

The event was organized in Seminar Hall of Architecture College. All the arrangements for the Programme were done by the staff,P.G. students, Interns and N.S.S volunteers.The event was inaugurated by Hon. Principal Dr.V. Sreenivasan on 20th and by Arc Ritu Deshmukh on 21st along with Dr.Meenakshi Verma by a lamp lighting ceremony.

This was followed by short speech given by Principal Sir followed by Dr.Meenakshi Verma regarding the meaning and importance of yoga in day to day life. She spoke about stress and taught yoga Asana, Pranayama, Yoga Nidra and Meditation according to the common yoga Protocol in a very interesting manner.All the participants were benefited from the session. And experienced the magic of Yoga.

Oral Hygiene Day : 1st August 2018

The Oral hygiene day was introduced to commemorate the birth anniversary of the doyen of Indian Periodontics and founder of the Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP), Dr G B Shankwalkar, who was born on 1st August.

Every year, ISP, along with its members dental associations such as the Indian Dental association (IDA) and its state branches, Private organizations and Rotary club and dental colleges across the country celebrated the Oral hygiene day on 1st August.

Its primary objective is to spread the message of Oral health and its importance and to curb the worrisome trend of neglect which has been one of the main causes for dental diseases. Nevertheless, the dental fraternity observes that the Oral hygiene of an average Indian has improved in the last decade.

Department of Periodontology and Department of Pediatrics celebrated Oral Hygiene day on 1st August 2019.

To mark this event under the initiation and guidance of Dr.V.Sreenivasan , Principal, Dr.Varsha Rathod Head of the Department of Periodontics and Dr. Amita Tiku, Head of the Department of Pediatrics organised the following event.

  1. Scientific quiz by - inviting four participants each from 2nd ,3rd ,4th B.D.S. and Interns for contesting. Distribution of prizes to winners. (Venue: Lecture hall no.1 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am) - Perio dept
  2. Healthy mouth contest – oral examination of 100 student participants in the department of Periodontics between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm, to be judged by the Principal. - Perio dept
  3. Table demonstration for oral hygiene awareness for all patients and their relatives visiting the college - demonstration of brushing techniques, flossing techniques and advanced periodontal procedures. Table demonstration for children showing importance of brushing and possible causes of tooth decay were explained. (Demos were held throughout the day at the registration counter on the ground floor).
  4. Distribution of informative flyers on oral hygiene awareness to all patients.
  5. Photobooth – in the P.G. section of the department of Periodontics and PG section of Pediatrics department.

Teachers Day celebrations : 5th September 2018

Teacher's day was celebrated by Students of Bharati Vidyapeeth Dental College, Navi Mumbai on 5th September .

The teachers were greeted with flowers in the morning. The teachers from all the department were given a teachers Day Card which were made by the students themselves. A Photo with All the teachers were taken by students while giving the cards.

A special programme was organized by interns students for staff in the lecture hall. A small Slide presentation was dedicated to the teachers for their contribution in upbringing of students. It was followed by small flash mob dance. Fun filled games were organized in which the staff of various departments were mixed and 6 teams were made.

Creative games were organized in which the staff had to make creative outfit with newspaper. Other round included Minute to Win it in which the teachers had to complete a particular task in a minute. Other round was the talent round in which the teachers showed their talent by singing or performing one act.

Children’s week 2018 was celebrated in the department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, B.V.D.U.D.C.H, Navi Mumbai from 12thto 17th of November, 2018.

The Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, B.V.D.U.D.C.H, Navi Mumbai actively participated in organizing various activities throughout the Children’s week. The event was successfully conducted under the guidance of the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Amita Tiku and the faculty of the department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry. Post graduate students and the interns actively participated in the organization and the conduction of the event.

Various activities were carried out throughout the week including the children’s day celebration.

Two oral health awareness stations were put up outside the department and at the main entrance of the college for guiding the patients and their parents about importance of oral health awareness, correct brushing methods and the importance of dental visit of a child patient.

On 14th of November, 2018, Children’s day and Pedodontist’s day were celebrated in the Department. Many activities like games, colouring were organized. Brushing station and emergency management of dental trauma awareness stations were active,where children with their parents were taught about importance of brushing and precautions to be taken related to trauma and the measures to be taken in case of emergency. A skit was performed by the post graduate students and interns on importance of Pediatric dentistry, in the college. Free fluoride application was done for children who visited the department on that day.

On the last day of the Children’s week, a poster competition for undergraduate students was organized by the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry. Students presented their posters on the topic, ‘Minimal Intervention Dentistry in Pediatric Dentistry’.

The entire week was a great learning experience for both the undergraduate and the post graduate students. The event got a great response from the patients and their parents.

Prosthodontics day : 22nd January 2019

The 22nd January 2019 was celebrated as the national ‘Prosthodontist Day’ by the Indian Prosthodontic Society (IPS) and Asian Academy of Prosthodontics. The objective of IPS is spread awareness of increased treatment modalities of tooth replacement. The faculty and post graduate students of Prosthodontics came together to commemorate this day with various events. The event was held at Prosthodontics department and was conducted under the guidance of Dr.V.Sreenivasan, Principal and Dr.Maya Dalaya ,Head of Department.

A quiz session was organised for the UG students followed by Demonstration of various treatments to the patients.

A walkathon was organized around the college campus and the adjoining residential area in which, students and Faculty displayed posters and placards highlighting the various treatment and rehabilitation procedures pertaining to Prosthodontics. The walkathon was followed by a skit display by the interns and PG students.

International OMS Day is to celebrate the contributions oral and maxillofacial surgeons make to society around the world and to raise the profile of the speciality.

The day was marked by reception of AOMSI torch on campus from AOMSI office bearers. Students and Interns participated in a slogan/poster/collage competition.

This is also the 50th year that the association of OMFS surgeons of India came into existance

The following events were organized:

  1. Quiz on surgical Skills for all staff members.
  2. Video presentation for staff,students and patients on creating awareness of the subject.
  3. Distribution of free medicines for patients visiting the college.
  4. Educating patients with audio-visual aids.
